BugSnap
Project Scope
Bugsnap is a mobile app concept focused on insect identification and education. The scope of the project included designing a user-friendly interface that allows users to photograph and identify insects in real time and provides accessible scientific information. Deliverables included app branding, UI/UX design, key user flows, and screen prototypes demonstrating the identification process and educational features.
Research
This project was informed by research into insect identification tools, including mobile apps, field guides, and online databases. I analyzed how users currently identify insects and where friction exists, such as difficulty navigating information or interpreting scientific terminology. I also looked at educational platforms to understand how to present scientific content more engagingly and accessibly. These insights guided the app’s focus on simplicity and usability.
Challenge
The challenge of Bugsnap was to make insect identification accessible to everyday users without overwhelming them with scientific complexity. Many existing tools are either too technical or difficult to navigate, creating a barrier for casual users. The project needed to balance accuracy with simplicity.
